ANNUAL REPORT (2017 - 2018)

 

Greetings and a warm Welcome to each and everyone present in this August gathering!

With great pleasure, may I present before you, the annual report of Bhavan¡¯s Vidya Mandir, Pathanamthitta, for the year-2016-2017.While the focus was on holistic development of every student, real education took the centre stage as in every year. We thank the Almighty God , for all the blessings bestowed upon us year after year.

Management

Bhavan¡¯s Vidya Mandir is a part of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai and is managed by a committee, headed by Shri. T. K. A. Nair, (Former Principal Advisor to the Prime-minister) as the Hon. Chairman.

Principal

Smt. Annie Mathen, the Principal was chosen as a Resource Person, of C. B. S. E. in the current year, too. . She conducted different workshops for principals and teachers in different parts of the state. She attended Eighth All India Bhavan¡¯s Principals¡¯ Conference in Chandigarh.. She also took part in All Kerala C. B. S. E. Principal¡¯s conference, at Kochi. She was conferred Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) by the University of South America on 29th September, 2017 for the contribution to education & teaching.     

Staff Council

A staff council is working in the school. A dedicated team of 44 teachers serve in the school.           Ms. Sindhumol is the staff secretary.

Parent Teacher Association [P. T. A.]

A good P. T. A. exists in the school. Mr Vijayakumar Nair is the President. General Body meetings, executive committee meetings and class wise PTA meetings were held, so as to foster a good relationship between the students, teachers and parents. We were able to give due consideration to suggestions and concerns of the parents in the formation of their children. Counseling classes were also conducted under the auspices of our PTA.

Student Leaders

Student leaders and the student body as a whole are of equal importance. Student leaders consisting of a Head Boy, Head Girl, Prefects, Captains and vice-captains of the four Houses were appointed and given badges of office. The head boy is Aswin P. K.  and the head girl is  Devi Vrinda . A.

AISSE Results-2017

The results were indeed sparkling, when the results of AISSE-2017 was declared in May, 2017.  We presented forty two students. Fourteen students obtained A1 in all subjects and all the other students passed in distinctions. We bow our heads in gratitude, before the Lord Almighty.

Library

A library with all facilities is functioning in our school. There are more than 6,000 books of academic, cultural and scientific significance, in addition to Bhavan¡¯s Publications in education, religion and Indian Culture.  Class libraries, are also functioning.

The Academic session commenced on a happy note witnessing the excellent performance of students in All Secondary School Examination

 School Reopening

 The school reopened for all classes after mid- summer vacation on the first of June, 2017. The newcomers both the students and staff were received with flowers. The re-opening day was celebrated in a very special way. Members of the Management and PTA were also present. School kits were distributed to the needy students in the neighbourhood.¡¯ Laddoos  ¡® were served to all by the PTA.

Examinations and Tests

Examinations and tests are regularly held in the school so as to enhance the learning process. .

External competitive examinations are also there, being optional for the students.  

Co- curricular activities

In accordance with the latest exam reforms of the CBSE, care has been taken to provide opportunities for our students to develop new skills in co- scholastic areas. Various clubs have been constituted. The school has a vibrant band set and also provides training in Classical and Modern Music and Dances, Yoga etc. We have also published various manuscripts.

Clubs

Different clubs function in the school in an effective way. The students ¡¯creative abilities were enhanced and were given ample opportunity to interact and to contribute for the welfare of the society. Planting of new saplings, medicinal gardens, chlorination of wells in the neighbourhood, canal cleaning, visits to old age homes, hospitals, distribution of food and money to the poor and needy etc. are some of the benevolent acts.  The different clubs and their respective conveners are as follows:

Counselling Classes

Counseling classes were given to students on different occasions by eminent personalities. Parents were also given a counseling class.

Pidiyari and benevolent funds

In order to develop the sense to be sensitive to the needs of our fellow beings, we have our Pidiyari programme, where a child could donate a handful of rice or more for the needy. We also have benevolent funds meant for those in need.

¡®Love your neighbor as yourself. ¡®

Under the auspices of Mathrubhumi-VKC –nanma, and the Integrity Club of our school, our students donated a sum of Rs. 10,000, each to cancer patients in the neighbourhood, in the presence of our Ward member, Ms. Seema Saji. Visits and donations to old age homes and orphanages were also made by the different clubs and classes.

 

 

Sports

As a part of the mental and physical development of our students, attuned to the directives from the CBSE, opportunities are provided for Sports and Games. The Annual School Sports was held on      27th  September,2017.

 

Our Physical Education teacher Mrs. Bini Varghese participated and won gold medal in Javelin Throw and silver medal in shot put in the 31st Malaysian International Open Master¡¯s Athletics Championship 2017 held at Sarawack, Kuching. She is selected to participate in the Master¡¯s Athletics, in Spain.

 

                                                  

                                                Events and activities of the year

 Cultural Fest

The final School level cultural Fest was conducted on19th September, 2017. Children had the opportunity to bloom out their hidden talents. They also took part in the zonal and state level C.B. S. E. Cultural Fest and had won many prizes.                           

 

Festivals/Celebrations

Both national and religious festivals were celebrated in the school with pomp and gay.

Picnics and Excursions

Our school organizes excursions and field trips every year to help students gain first hand knowledge and augment their academic learning.

As a part of informal education, students were taken out for picnics and excursion in the following places Green Valley, Happy Land, Magic Planet, Silver Storm, Wonder La, Mysore, Bangalore etc

National Integration Camp

 Every year, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan organizes National Integration Camps for the students in India. This year, six students, escorted by a teacher (Ms. Suvarna Sasi), went to Koorge, Karnataka for the National Integration camp.

 International Science Festival (IISF) 2016

The Science Village program is  organised by Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA).  All the participants have been nominated by the Hon¡¯ble Member of Parliament from their respective adopted village.We were privileged to be selected again in this current year.   Six students and one teacher (Mrs. Girija R) took part in the IISF 2017, held in Chennai from 13th-16th October, 2017.

Infosys Cultural Outreach programme 2016

Under the auspices of Pathanamthitta Kendra and Infosys Foundation two programmes were organized on two different venues. In order to promote, patronize and popularize near extinct traditional folk arts and to foster and strengthen the creative and traditional foundation we conducted two programmes. One on 24th Sept 2016 at Musaliar College Auditorium, Malayalapuzha (Nadanpattu, Pakanar Kolam, Paranthattom and semi classical keerthanam) and the second one on 01st March 2017 at the  Bhadrakali Temple, Vettipuram as a part of the temple ritual the famous dying dance form of Kerala ¡°Theyyam¡±.

Bhavan¡¯s Vidya Mandir, Pathanamthitta in collaboration with Infosys Foundation conducted the cultural outreach programme on 24th Spetember, 2017 at Samskriti Navaratri Mandapam, Ranni. The programme comprised of ¡°Flute Recital¡± by Saurav Sunil from Uthimood. The programme attracted a huge audience.

On the same day after the Flute Recital there was Music Night (Sangeetha Sandhya) by Arsha Bharathi School of Music, Ranni which was a real treat to the audience.

The Cultural Outreach Programmes are conducted to promote the art and the artists which are otherwise left unnoticed by many.

Our school coordinator Mrs. Shaikh Sabeena and Mr. Rajesh Ramachandran took initiative and conducted the programme with the guidance of our Principal Dr. Annie Mathen.

BAIT 2017

Debate club of Bhavans Vidyashram, Kilpauk, Chennai, had hosted a national level debate competition in September this year. There were participants from many Bhavans schools from various states. We made our presence known with a team of four children, being the only school from Kerala. Five students accompanied with a teacher (Ms. SindhuMol) participated in the Competition. It was a great experience for the students.

Unique way of celebrating the state festival

Onam the State festival of Kerala was celebrated in a unique way at Bhavan¡¯s Pathanamthitta. Instead of having great feast along with the other festivities our students donated that amount to be given to Mrs. Omana, M/o Mr. Gireesh, Kadamanitta who is a cancer patient. Onam is the time for caring and sharing. Students and teachers also visited Kennedy Charitable home for the blind and distributed new clothes, eatables and provisions to give the real meaning for the celebration for which our festival Onam stands.

As a part of Mathrubhumi Nanma Club activity the amount was handed over by a student Aarushi S of IV Std in the presence of Hon. Secretary Shri. Sherief Mohammed, Principal Dr. Annie Mathen, Vice Principal Mrs. Suvarna Sasi, PTA President Mr. Vijayakumaran Nair M S and all other members of Integrity Club.

Children¡¯s day celebration

This year Children¡¯s day was celebrated at Variyapuram Campus with great vigour and vitality.Students of classes I and II took out a Rally in the school premises dressed as ¡°Chacha Nehru¡±.

Special assembly was conducted incorporating speeches, songs, dance etc. Our Joint Secretary Prof. Narayana Swami delivered the children¡¯s day message. House wise Quiz was conducted based on the life of Pandit Nehru. The special attraction of the programme was the stamp exhibition. Students exhibited their stamp collection. One of our student Krithi Kannen had exhibited all the stamps related to Children¡¯s day released by the Postal Department from 1956 to 2016. This unique exhibition caught the attraction of print and electronic media.

Assembly

Bhavan¡¯s Vidya Mandir, Pathanamthitta, conducts morning assemblies regularly. The special days observed in the assemblies are as follows.

Teachers¡®Refresher Programmes¡¯

Teachers attended different workshops and orientation classes conducted by Bhavan¡¯s, CBSE etc in various parts of the country and got enriched in modern teaching methods and trends in education.

 

ACHIEVEMENTS- (OUTSTANDING)

Bhavan¡¯s Vidya Mandir, Pathanamthitta, gives equal importance to both curricular and co-curricular activities. This is proved by the awards, Trophies and scholarships obtained by the school and the students under the able guidance of our Art teachers Ms. Meena C G, Aneela K M, Yoga teacher Mrs. Bini Varghese, Music teacher Mrs. Sheela C, Olympiad Coordinator Mrs. SindhuMol, Spell Bee coordinators Ms. Shaikh Sabeena and Mrs. Shalima R, PCM coordinator Mrs. Rajam Mol K G, Science coordinator Mrs. Remya Kurian etc

 Mikacha School Award

The principal received ¡®Mikacha School Award¡¯ from Prof. P. J. Kurien, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha for the outstanding results in AISSE-2017, in Pathanamthitta District.

 

School Topper Awards

 P. C. M. National Level Scholarship Examination 2016-2017

Our school received the Topper School Award-2016-2017 for the grand results in PCM National Level Scholarship Examination. .

District Inter School Team Chess Championship-2017

Bhavan¡¯s Vidya Mandir, Pathanamthitta,was once again able to grab the championship trophies ,in the District Inter School Chess competitions, held in Adoor.

AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS

 

1)     Kerala Forest & Wildlife Forest Division – Painting Competition

-          Jhanvi M (IV) has participated and won special prize in the Painting Competition organised by Kerala Forest & Wildlife with Green Nagar Residence Association Konni on February 2017 at Eco Tourism Centre Konni.

 

2)     8th Mini Fencing National Championship, Nashik (Maharashtra)

-          Aadil Prassun (II A) got 3rd place in General Championship held from 21st to 23rd July 2017 on Birthday occasion of Hon. Shri Ajitdada Pawar (Ex. Dep. Chief Minister Maharashtra State)

 

3)     Kerala Forest & Wild life Forest Division – Painting Competition

-          Jhanvi M (IV A) got 2nd prize and a cash prize of Rs. 1000/- each for water colour competition and Pencil Drawing competition.

 

4)     Spell Bee International Competition

-          Ammelia Dipu (IX) got 1st, Aleena T (IX) got 2nd and Alok Suresh (IX) got 3rd position

 

5)     Chess Championship

-          Aadil Prassun (II A) got 1st place in chess championship conducted by YMCA, Adoor

 

6)     Pathanamthitta District Yoga Championship  2017

-          Breena Ilane Balachandran (IV C) got 3rd prize in the District Yogasana Championship held at YMCA, Thiruvalla. She is qualified to attend the State Level Yogasana Championship.

 

7)     Pathanamthitta District Karate Championship 2017

-          Krithi Kannen (IV B) got 2nd prize in the Pathanamthitta Distrcit Karate Championship held at National Central School, Ezhamkulam.

 

 

8)     Bhavan¡¯s Fest held at Bhavan¡¯s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad

-          Sona Suresh (X) got 2nd place in Category – 4 Mohiniyattom

 

9)     CTSC State Kalotsav 2017, IES Public School, Chittilappally, Thrissur

-          Athira Sreekumar (XII) got 2nd in Poster Designing

 

10) Chess Association of India – Chess Tournament for school students held at Adoor

-          Haritha Krishna (VI A), Aadil Prassun (II A) and Jeevan Maheswar Vinoy (II A) had won trophies for the school.

-          Adithyan A S (VI B) got 1st and 3rd prize
